This was a concept style for Fifa on the Wii. I had lots of fun with this one, the direction I recieved was to give a sculpted vinyl toy/superhero look for them.

TaskMaster

This was another Marvel book called Taskmaster, a shapeshifter that followed the wrong crowd. I did all the pencilling, and layouts. During this time I was also working a day job, just so I can get the shiney new pair of shoes.

Playground 2

At EA, I was task to concept some character IP for a sequel game called Playground for the Wii, the art team had creative freedom with basing many of characters on celebrities, and iconic figures. The art director wanted to keep the style very similar to the previous playground, with the big head and little bodies. Some of these characters made the cut, and some didn't. They were either too dark, or too normal.

The previous Playground was skewed towards a much younger audience. A decision was made to age up the characters to target more of the tween- teenager market, I quickly photoshopped them by shrinking the heads , and changing the proportions; other IP characters were also added. I personally liked the melon heads.

Some VTARs (visual targets terminology they use at EA) This was a lot different from the things I usually drew, I experiment with different styles, and colors. I got some tips from Gustavo a fellow concept artist on brushes, and layers to get me started.

For marketing I was ask to concept some celebrates in the Playground style, I guess they liked it a lot, so they based the whole game on celebrities, all IP's I created were now unlockable costumes for the celebrities. None of these celebrities signed on, but they managed to get other celebrities like Avril Lavinge, Sugar Ray, Fergie, and some other celebrities. The game was later name Celebrity Sports Showdown, if you are interested there's more info about it www.celebritysportsshowdown.com. I did not create any of new celebrity IP as I was moved onto another project. Bummer...

In my last days at EA I was ask to explore some different styles with Avril Lavigne. I started with a sketch and rendered a final image.

Avengelyne, and old Comic Stuff

These are old pages from Avengelyne. Contract at Maximum Press under Image 1995. Inker was John Livesay, the editor was Matt Hawkins, owner Rob Liefeld. It was good , yet chaotic experience. I remember having to do 2-3 weeks for a book, and these were my first published work. I got pretty burned out fast. I was contracted with Maximum Press for 12 issues, but no timeline. I was idling for 3-4 months between books. During this time the Jim lee called me, and was interested in my work, but unfortunately I was working under Maximum, and Jim Lee didn't want to get involved. I had to get a lawyer to break my contract with Maximum Press. After this situation I was very discouraged about comics industry. That I went back to school for 3D.

I've been painting portraits on photoshop, all done in greyscale. These are just studies of different characteristics of faces, and understanding lighting situations, and just plain practice I love faces, photos were used as reference you might recognize some faces, the painting were done from anywhere 30min-1hour while my baby was napping.

StrongARM

Cover of StrongArm issue 1, I thought the direction for the original colors were abit too happy, and it wasn't anything I'd envision. I insisted that I'd color the cover, but it was too late as it was already sent to the press. I was very disappointed, the cover does make a big difference. With all this time, I thought I'd give it a shot. I wanted to give it more a sci-fi feeling, darker and create more depth to the image.

Bedlam

A never released game called Titans, these were some of the concepts I created while I was at a studio called Bedlam, they are based in Toronto and under a publisher called Groove. I work there for about a year as a concept/animator before moving to Vancouver as a fulltime concept artist. As you can see it was heavily influenced by 300.

FACEBREAKER KO party

These were revised, and sculpted with harder edges to lower the polygon for the wii version of Facebreaker. The style, and the design were set, and my job was to redraw it in the sculpted look. I had lots of fun with the BFG character, production let me have some creative freedom with it.

Hiya,

My first blog, I thought I start off by saying thanks for visiting and taking a look at my blog, as I thought it would be easier to blog to showcase my portfolio rather than creating a website.

I was laid off from electronic arts around the end of Jan 09, and I'm not at all bitter about it, they are great bunch over there, and this job has given me opportunities, and experience I need to continue with my concept career.

On that note, I'm going to start off posting work I have done at EA, I will try my best to explain alot of my experience, and process I went through with the production, art directors, and art leads. Most of the time I dealt with the art side.
